House Contents Insurance
Many tenants and homeowners alike have house contents insurance and assume that it will protect all of their personal possessions in the events of theft, fire and accidental damage, amongst other possible occurrences. However, this peace of mind may be misplaced if they have not fully read the terms and conditions of their cover. Certain personal possessions are often not covered under regular policies.
For example, house contents insurance will often not cover expensive jewellery, fine art, antiques and collections that have been valued at an elevated price. This is obviously because the value of those items would go above and beyond the level of cover that you have. It is possible to insure these items separately, but you may want to check your cover with your insurer first.
If you do own any of those items then you may have to contact your house contents insurance company to see whether you are covered. They will document your possessions when you call them if you are. If you are not then they will more than likely offer you elevated cover that will cover those items. It is worthwhile checking just to be on the safe side because it will give you peace of mind that all of your possessions are covered no matter what.
