Home Contents Insurance
Whilst not a legal requirement, it is advisable for every homeowner and tenant to have a home contents insurance policy in place to help protect them and their possessions when necessary. No matter whether you own your own home or rent, you will have your possessions there and so it is relevant to you.
Home contents insurance is literally what its name says it is – an insurance policy that protects your possessions within the home. As such, your home contents insurance will cover your possessions for the following things:
- Fire – A fire in your home could potentially destroy all of your possessions so it is essential that you could afford to replace everything you own if necessary. Whether it is a small kitchen fire or an all-consuming house fire, you can have peace of mind that you will be able to afford to replace your stuff.
- Theft – If someone broke into your home and took your TV, computer and kitchen appliances then you probably would not be able to afford to replace them. This is where contents insurance comes in. Policies will protect you for all stolen property.
- Damage – Although some policies no longer cover accidental damage, some still do. This covers any unexpected damage, apart from that caused by pets. If a policy does have this included then it is worth special consideration because you are covered no matter what happens.
